שָׁמַעְתִּי בִּשְׁמוֹ, שֶׁהוֹכִיחַ אֶת אֶחָד שֶׁאָמַר לוֹ, שֶׁאֵין לוֹ פְּנַאי לִלְמֹד מֵחֲמַת שֶׁעוֹסֵק בְּמַשָּׂא וּמַתָּן, אָמַר: שֶׁאַף-עַל-פִּי-כֵן רָאוּי לוֹ לַחְטֹף אֵיזֶה זְמַן לַעֲסֹק בַּתּוֹרָה בְּכָל יוֹם. וְאָמַר, מַה שֶּׁאָמְרוּ רַבּוֹתֵינוּ זִכְרוֹנָם לִבְרָכָה (שבת לא), שֶׁשּׁוֹאֲלִין אֶת הָאָדָם: קָבַעְתָּ עִתִּים לַתּוֹרָה, קָבַע הוּא לְשׁוֹן גְּזֵלָה, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב (משלי כ״ב:כ״ג): וְקָבַע אֶת קֹבְעֵיהֶם נָפֶשׁ; הַיְנוּ שֶׁשּׁוֹאֲלִין אֶת הָאָדָם, אִם גָּזַל מִן הַזְּמַן שֶׁהוּא טָרוּד בַּעֲסָקָיו, אִם גָּזַלְתָּ מֵהֶן עִתִּים לַתּוֹרָה, כִּי צָרִיךְ הָאָדָם לַחְטֹף וְלִגְזֹל עִתִּים לַתּוֹרָה מִתּוֹךְ הַטִּרְדָּא וְהָעֵסֶק.
"I heard in his name, that he rebuked someone who told him that he had no time to study because he was engaged in commerce. He said: Even so, it is proper for a person to grab some time each day to engage in Torah. And he said: What our Sages of blessed memory said (Shabbat 31a) — 'Did you set fixed times for Torah?' — the word 'set' (kava) is a term for robbery, as it is written (Proverbs 22:23): 'And He will plunder (v'kava) the soul of those who plunder them'; meaning, they ask a person, if in the time that he is busy with his affairs, did he steal from them times for Torah — for a person must steal and grab moments for Torah from the midst of busyness and toil."
